Custom CNC Aluminum Parts

Engineers and designers are choosing aluminum alloys for CNC milling parts and CNC machining. This makes a lot of sense in light of the following benefits to this multi-purpose metal:
  • High strength
  • Exceptional machinability
  • Tolerance to heat
  • Hardness
  • Low weight
  • Low cost
  • Versatility
  • Conductivity
  • Corrosion Resistance
  • and more…

Aluminum Alloys for Machining

Pangea Technologies offers innumerable aluminum alloys and a long list of other manufacturing materials. Two alloys that are suited for CNC machining are Aluminum 7075 and 6061.

Take a look at both the alloys and why they are the best for CNC machining:

  • Aluminum 7075: Known for its hardness, high strength, corrosion resistance, low weight, and high heat tolerance, Aluminum 7075 is one of the best options.
  • Aluminum 6061: CNC aluminum alloys include 6061. It is low cost, is versatile, and has excellent resistance to corrosion. The material gets a superior appearance once anodized.

Applications of CNC Machined Aluminum Parts

CNC machined aluminum parts are found almost anywhere and everywhere in different industries, especially aerospace, machinery, industrial equipment, computer electronics, and consumer products.

Here is a list of the applications:

  • Automotive parts
  • Brackets, housing, and aerospace components that need support for heavy loads.
  • Calipers, fixtures, and other industrial equipment parts.
  • Panels, enclosures, knobs, consoles, and many other applications for computer electronics.

CNC Machined Aluminum Parts: Anodizing Options

Anodizing is a common finishing option. It offers robust corrosion protection and enhances the appearance of metal parts.

In total, there are three aluminum anodizing options:

  • Type I-Chromic Acid: Provides a thin yet durable coating. It is best used on assemblies and welded parts. It also acts as a primer before you paint. Like all of the anodized surfaces, this one is non-conductive.
  • Type II Sulfuric Acid: It is harder than Type I and it gives a durable finish too. You can use it on flashlight handles, carabiner hooks, hydraulic valve bodies, and motorcycle parts. It gives a good shine and is quite durable too.
  • Type III Hard Coat or Hard Anodize: This is the hardest and the thickest of all. Applications include: aerospace, automotive, marine industry, heavy equipment, military and law enforcement.

Given its great strength and other properties, CNC aluminum parts usage has grown significantly over the years.

Aluminum, as a material, is lightweight, soft, malleable, tractable, and quite robust. The appearance can be silver-ish or dull gray. It is now being used in CNC automotive applications as well as the medical, aerospace, and ATV industries.
